When do we need to administer immunosuppressant drugs?

Our Immune system has an inherent capability to recognise ‘Self” from ‘Non- Self”.

When Organ Transplants are done, this property of our immune system would cause rejection of the organ transplanted as it would recognise the transplanted organ as ‘Non-self’. Immuno- suppressants are called as anti- rejection drugs which help prevent body to reject transplanted organ.

Cyclosporin A is one such Immuno- suppressant , derived from the fungi – Trichoderma polysporum.
